Red Sox Rumors: Are Alex Bregman, Garrett Crochet Recruiting Top Trade Target?
The Boston Red Sox are the hottest team in the majors. While they are enjoying some downtime during the All-Star break, they entered the extended layoff riding a 10-game winning streak, catapulting them into a wild card spot at the unofficial midway point of the season.
While the majority of the team is enjoying the break, two of the team’s All-Star representatives, Alex Bregman and Garrett Crochet, have been busy down in Atlanta. However, it may not be for the reason you’d expect, as both Bregman and Crochet won’t play in the All-Star Game on Tuesday night.
Instead, Bregman and Crochet have been busy interacting with their All-Star teammates. That includes Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan, who has been heavily linked to the Red Sox as a potential trade candidate.
Bregman and Crochet have been seen spending quite a bit of time with Ryan during the All-Star festivities. On Monday night, the Red Sox shared a clip of both guys greeting fans in Atlanta, with Ryan notably walking right now to Crochet.
It didn’t stop there, though. Bregman poured fuel onto an already burning fire when he shared a photo of himself on Instagram alongside Crochet and Ryan, leading many fans to believe that he is actively attempting to lure the Twins ace to Boston.
In his fifth year in the majors, Ryan has starred for the Twins this season, earning the first All-Star selection of his career. So far this year, Ryan has a 9-4 record with a 2.72 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 109.1 innings of work.
With Minnesota struggling to keep up in the American League wild card race, they could opt to unload Ryan, who is due for a big pay raise in the near future. The Red Sox could use some reinforcements in their starting rotation, which would make Ryan a perfect fit for them.
Ultimately, Ryan won’t have much say in where he lands if he gets moved. However, Bregman and Crochet could be sending a subtle message to Craig Breslow and the Red Sox’s front office, which makes Ryan a trade target worth keeping tabs on over the next couple of weeks.
