Watch Aroldis Chapman Strike Out Fernando Tatis Jr. In All-Star Game With Filthy Splitter

Aroldis Chapman has become a staple of the All-Star Game, and he reaffirmed why Tuesday night.

The veteran closer was voted into his eighth Midsummer Classic this season, getting the nod in his first year with the Boston Red Sox.

Chapman, unsurprisingly, was tasked with handling the ninth inning, which he did with aplomb. He retired the side in order, getting Kyle Schwarber to line out to third, Fernando Tatis Jr. to strike out on three pitches, and Brendan Donovan to ground out.

The Tatis Jr. at-bat was particularly compelling, as Chapman made the San Diego Padres star look silly, finishing him off with one of a splitter, one of his lesser-used pitches.

Because Chapman locked things down, the game ultimately was decided by a swing-off, which the National League won in a thrilling change to the annual showcase.

Chapman was playing in his first All-Star Game since 2021, when he was still closing for the New York Yankees. The 37-year-old has 17 saves across 41 appearances for the Sox in 2025, with a 1.18 ERA and 0.763 WHIP.

Chapman has bounced around the last few seasons since leaving the Yankees, however he indicated to WEEI’s Rob Bradford that he had not yet discussed an extension with Boston.
