Ex-Celtics Guard Undesirable? ‘Market Is Currently Nonexistent’
A former Boston Celtics guard is being shopped aggressively by his current team, but there aren’t any takers.
An explosive scorer who thrived under the coaching of Brad Stevens in Boston, Terry Rozier hasn’t clicked with the Miami Heat since Pat Riley acquired Rozier midway through the 2023-24 season; and it’s no surprise that Miami is now looking for a trade.
Forbes’ Evan Sidery reported the following on Rozier this week:
“The Heat have been active in the marketplace attempting to find a team willing to take on Terry Rozier’s expiring contract. However, due to it being a $26.6 million figure, the trade market is currently nonexistent. There’s a strong chance Rozier enters the season with Miami.”
Rozier’s 10.6 points per game average in 2024-25 wasn’t an accurate reflection of his talent. Still in his prime at 31 years old, Rozier is capable of scoring north of 20 points per game, much like he did in three seasons for the Charlotte Hornets, including a 23.2 average in 30 games in 2023-24 before being traded to Miami.
Rozier was selected by Boston with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft out of Louisville. He was a valuable bench player in four seasons for the Celtics and showed he could thrive as an NBA starter when Kyrie Irving went down with an injury. Rozier was the No. 10 vote-getter for Sixth Man of the Year in 2017-18 (Rozier’s age-23 season).
Rozier could help several teams who need instant offense, but as Sidery noted, his cap hit has deterred would-be suitors.
