Tottenham officially announce their fourth most expensive signing of all-time – ‘He only wanted Spurs’

Tottenham have officially announced the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United as Thomas Frank bolsters his Europa League-winning front line with another star.

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer business was off to a slow start, but during the past few days, two new signings have come through the door.

On Tuesday, July 8, Spurs announced the signing of 20-year-old Japan international Kota Takai, who joined for a record fee of £5 million, the highest amount ever paid for a J-League player.

Spurs have not stopped there either, as Daniel Levy and his board have gone on to splash the cash on West Ham United winger Mohammed Kudus, making the Ghana international the first player to make a direct switch from West Ham to Tottenham since 2011.

In fact, it might be a classic case of London buses for Tottenham fans, as two big-name signings arrive at once after weeks of waiting. Spurs have Morgan Gibbs-White booked in for a medical on Friday, just 24 hours after Kudus had his at Hotspur Way.

Mohammed Kudus becomes Tottenham’s third summer signing under Thomas Frank

It is official, Tottenham Hotspur have now confirmed that Mohammed Kudus will become the third signing under new head coach Thomas Frank – subject to work permit.

The 24-year-old has completed his switch from West Ham to Spurs after the Hammers accepted Tottenham’s £55 million bid.

Kudus has reportedly put pen to paper on a six-year deal, which is expected to keep him at N17 until 2031. However, in the official announcement, Tottenham just describe it as a ‘long-term deal.’

Tottenham managed to secure the Ghanaian’s signature despite interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and Chelsea, with Kudus only interested in making the move to Spurs.

The winger, who is capable of playing across multiple positions including right wing, left wing, number ten and centre-forward, now joins Kota Takai and Mathys Tel as the three confirmed summer arrivals for the 2025/26 campaign, taking Spurs’ spending so far to £89.5 million.

Spurs fans react as Kudus joins Tottenham for £55 million

Spurs fans have been left delighted with the latest signing, as some believe that Kudus would improve their attack next season.

West Ham fans, however, have expressed frustration after finding out that Tottenham secured the services of one of their best players for a price well below his £85 million release clause.

Kudus managed a modest return of five goals and three assists in the 2024/25 season, and while that could be attributed to West Ham’s inconsistency last term, Spurs supporters will be hoping he can rediscover the spark that saw him bag eight goals and six assists in his debut Premier League campaign.

Kudus now becomes Tottenham’s fourth most expensive signing of all-time, although he may be bumped down to number five once Gibbs-White completes his move.
