Joe Ryan To Red Sox? Insider Predicts Trade Price For Pitcher

0 34

The Boston Red Sox reportedly have monitored the availability of Minnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan.

But that’s not to say Ryan will land in Boston before the July 31 trade deadline.

“It takes two to tango,” WEEI Red Sox insider Rob Bradford said on the station’s “Jones & Keefe” show on Thursday.

The 29-year-old pitcher, who was named to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, won’t come cheap.

“I think right now to get Joe Ryan, you’re talking about a (Garrett) Crochet-type deal,” Bradford said. “And for the Red Sox, is that something they’re willing to do? What I’m saying is it’s going to cost more than people think to get Joe Ryan.”

The Red Sox acquired Crochet in mid-December and surely don’t regret it. But Boston did trade four prospects — Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez — to the Chicago White Sox in the deal. Teel was Boston’s fourth-best prospect while Montgomery was the organization’s 2024 first-round pick.

“Joe Ryan isn’t just, ‘Oh, we’re going to go get him.’ No,” Bradford said. “He’s got control. He’s a good pitcher, he just made the All-Star team. But, once again, the Red Sox have liked him for a long time.”

Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom made it known the organization could target more pitching before the deadline. There might not be a better pitcher on the trade market than Ryan, who has a career-best 2.76 ERA in 17 starts this season.
