Yankees Might Have Problem Brewing As Aaron Boone Benches Irked Veteran
Tensions appear to be high in the Bronx.
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu is no longer viewed as an everyday player and will instead come off the bench, per The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. The 36-year-old is owed $30 million over the next two seasons, but will be used in a reserve role.
LeMahieu is not happy about it, according to Boone.
“Not great necessarily,” Boone responded when asked about LeMahieu’s reaction, per Kirschner. “That’s kind of the situation we’re in right now.”
Kirschner noted because LeMahieu is not a prototypical bench player his future in Pinstripes could be in doubt. It’s possible the Yankees eventually decide to designate him for assignment, Kirschner wrote.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. will transition from third base to second in an effort to improve his individual play and overall team defense.
