NBA Rumors: Celtics ‘Actively’ Trying To Trade This Player

Anfernee Simons might not be long for Boston.

The Boston Celtics acquired Simons from the Trail Blazers in the deal that sent Jrue Holiday to Portland. The agreement, which was first reported June 23, was finalized Monday.

Since landing in Boston, however, Simons has been the subject of more trade speculation. And ESPN’s Brian Windhorst added to it during “The Hoop Collective” podcast released Wednesday.

“They are trying — I have talked to other teams who have said the Celtics are actively trying to trade Anfernee Simons,” Windhorst said on the podcast. “Whether they can or not is another (thing).”

ESPN colleague Shams Charania previously hinted Simons would be discussed in trade talks.

Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens was complimentary of Simons when he met with reporters Tuesday. Stevens credited Simons as an “elite” scorer and shooter.

So why would the Celtics trade a 26-year-old who’s averaged 19-plus points per game each of the last three seasons? Because Simons, who is on an expiring contract, is due $27.7 million during the 2025-26 campaign, and the Green obviously are trying to save some money as they deal with the second apron of the luxury tax.
