Tottenham send ‘prodigious’ £13m player out on loan to play with Angel Di Maria

0 0

Tottenham have sent Alejo Veliz back to Argentina, with the striker sealing a return to Rosario Central on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Alejo Veliz had been attracting interest from clubs in South America since the opening of the summer transfer window, with several sides monitoring his situation following a mixed spell in Spain last season.

The centre-forward spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Espanyol in La Liga, where he made 29 appearances in all competitions.

However, he managed just four goals and failed to register a single assist during his time in Spain. Veliz has since returned to Hotspur Way, linking up with new Spurs boss Thomas Frank for the start of pre-season training.

Still, recent reports have claimed that Alejo Veliz was adamant that if he did return to his home country, it would only be to play for Rosario Central.

He made his name at the Argentine club before joining Spurs, despite interest from Racing Club de Avellaneda who reportedly put in a £6m bid for Veliz.

Tottenham agree loan deal with Rosario Central for Alejo Veliz

Tottenham Hotspur have now confirmed that they have reached an agreement in principle with Rosario Central for the temporary transfer of Alejo Veliz.

Veliz, who featured for both the Tottenham Under-21s and senior side a combined total of 10 times, scoring two goals, will now depart Hotspur Way once again in search of regular first-team football.

The deal has been finalised with no purchase option included, but Spurs have secured the right to recall Veliz at the end of 2025, suggesting they could still see a potential future for the Argentine in north London.

Veliz, who was once described as ‘prodigious’ by The Athletic, will also play alongside Angel Di Maria at Rosario after the Real Madrid legend recently re-signed with his boyhood team.

Alejo Veliz returns to Rosario Central after Spurs loan spells

It had been reported that Rosario Central were interested in signing Veliz permanently, but it appears Tottenham are not prepared to cut ties with the striker just yet.

The Argentine is now heading back to his boyhood club for the second time in his career, having come through the ranks at Rosario Central, where he made 63 appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing two assists before his move to England.

Veliz, who signed a six-year deal with Tottenham after joining in 2023, is now set for his third loan spell. He previously spent time at Sevilla midway through his debut season and endured a largely unproductive stint with Espanyol last term.
