Man Utd poised for £7.4m windfall after David Ornstein bombshell update on 23yo star
Manchester United are poised for a windfall with Anthony Elanga on the cusp of joining Newcastle United from Nottingham Forest this summer.
The Red Devils sold the Sweden international to Forest for £15 million in the summer of 2023, and he has since developed into a quality winger.
The 23-year-old had a brilliant second year with Forest, scoring five goals and providing nine assists.
Aside from his goal contributions, he also impressed with his counter-attacking pace and link-up play.
The Magpies have now agreed to sign him from Forest for an initial package of £52 million plus add-ons that are considered difficult to reach, as per David Ornstein.
Elanga has already finalised personal terms and will complete his move by the end of the week.
The transfer is expected to directly benefit United, who will be owed 20 percent of the profit made.
The Red Devils are set to secure a windfall of £7.4m from the winger’s transfer to the Magpies.
United are working on a limited transfer budget. The failure to qualify for the Champions League means they need to recoup funds from player sales.
That looks easier said than done, considering Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony all have preferred clubs they would like to join this summer.
Alejandro Garnacho likewise wants to stay in the Premier League. Hence, the Red Devils may have to play the waiting game to recoup funds from the quartet.
Amidst this, United are poised to receive £7.4m from Elanga’s Forest exit. The fee is not significant, but could aid the club’s pursuit of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
The Bees recently turned down a second bid worth £62.5m from United for the Cameroonian star, who netted 20 goals and provided nine assists last season.
The west London outfit want a much higher fee. The incoming funds from Elanga’s switch could be utilised to sort out an agreement for Mbeumo soon.
