3 tackles/game: £75k per wk star now ready to join Man Utd, bargain signing at £9m - opinion

Manchester United are likely to make multiple additions to the squad this summer.

The Red Devils have so far signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but talks are ongoing with Brentford over a potential deal for Bryan Mbeumo.

United could also seek to bolster their midfield too. Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi is on their radar, and his close friend Julius Aghahowa has added fuel to the speculation.

Aghahowa said that Everton and Al-Ahli are interested in the Nigerian star, but the midfielder hopes to join United. He wants an upgrade in his career next term.

He said (via SportWitness): “While Everton and Al-Ahli’s interest is obvious, Ndidi hopes to join Manchester United. He wants to take a step up by signing for a big club like Manchester United.”

Ndidi would be a bargain signing at £9m

United presently have Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte as their senior holding midfielders. The former is no longer in his prime and has looked vulnerable against high-pressing teams.

Ugarte arrived from Paris Saint-Germain last summer with a big reputation, but the Uruguayan has likewise been inconsistent. He found himself on the bench in the final weeks of last season.

United manager Ruben Amorim may want a new solution for the number six position next season, but the budget could be limited with the main priority on bolstering the attack.

We believe Ndidi would be a good bargain signing. He is available for £9m after the Foxes’ relegation.

The Foxes never looked like beating the Premier League drop, but Ndidi stood out in the centre of the park. He won an impressive 6.3 duels and three tackles per appearance.

The Nigerian ace, who earns £75,000 per week at Leicester, also made 2.6 clearances and 4.5 recoveries on average.

He had a decent passing accuracy of 82 percent despite the Foxes’ limited possession of the ball.

Ndidi would be a quality addition to the United ranks. He is a traditional number six who likes to break up play. He may not be a regular starter, but would add more defensive resolve.

He has a clear desire to join the Red Devils ahead of Everton and Al-Ahli. It remains to be seen whether the club’s hierarchy formalise the interest and activate his release clause.
