Celtics Rumors: NBA Insider Links All-Star To Boston

Bradley Beal is reportedly on the verge of a buyout with the Phoenix Suns, and the Boston Celtics could be a landing spot.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported over the weekend that Beal is “actively exploring his options with other teams” as buyout talks progress. Once the deal is finalized, Beal is expected to draw interest from several contenders.

The 32-year-old guard never found a consistent rhythm in Phoenix. He averaged 17 points per game last season — his lowest since 2015 — and the Suns are now exploring a financial reset.

Beal still has two years and $110 million left on his deal, which includes a rare no-trade clause. To complete the buyout under league rules, he would need to give back roughly $13.9 million.

If he hits free agency, Boston could make sense. The Celtics have been searching for a veteran guard this summer and have been linked to Damian Lillard.

“Beal is healthy and could contribute right away,” wrote Alex Barth of 98.5 The Sports Hub, unlike Lillard, who is recovering from a torn Achilles.

With Jayson Tatum expected to miss most of the season, the Celtics have a need for a short-term starting role next to Jaylen Brown. Beal’s scoring ability and experience could fill a real need.

There is also a personal connection. Beal and Tatum both grew up in St. Louis and attended Chaminade High School. Their bond could factor into Beal’s decision if Boston makes a push.

The Celtics are still above the second apron, but if the right salary-clearing move is made, Beal could be the kind of low-cost, high-reward piece who helps keep Boston in the upper tier of the Eastern Conference.
