Tottenham finally receive some good news out of Chelsea in Mohammed Kudus race

0 48

Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Mohammed Kudus, as fresh reports suggest London rivals Chelsea are unlikely to sign the West Ham winger.

After missing out on the likes of Antoine Semenyo, Bryan Mbeumo and Eberechi Eze, Tottenham supporters were pleased to see their club linked with a move for Mohammed Kudus.

We reported a few weeks ago that Tottenham had been handed an opportunity to sign Kudus, who has an £85 million (€100 million) release clause, for a cut-price fee.

The 24-year-old’s 2024/25 season was not exactly a standout campaign, with the West Ham winger scoring just five goals and registering three assists across 32 Premier League appearances.

Chelsea unlikely to put in a bid for Mohammed Kudus

Still, Tottenham remain intent on bringing Mohammed Kudus to north London this summer. Reports emerged last week that Daniel Levy had already lodged an opening bid for the player, which was swiftly turned down.

Since then, Tottenham have returned with two further offers for Kudus, with the most recent bid worth £50 million plus £12.5 million in add-ons – a package that has also been rejected by the Hammers.

There have been widespread claims that Chelsea are set to enter the race for Kudus, and BBC Sport have given credence to those reports, stating that Chelsea did indeed hold talks regarding Kudus.

However, the outlet further reports that a move to Stamford Bridge is now considered unlikely; it is understood that Kudus is prioritising a move to Tottenham this summer.

Journalist Sami Mokbel said: ‘Chelsea did hold talks regarding a move for him, but it is understood a move to Stamford Bridge is unlikely. Well-placed sources have told BBC Sport that Kudus is prioritising a move to Spurs this summer.’

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also echoed these claims, suggesting that Kudus is solely focused on joining Tottenham.

According to the journalist, Kudus has already agreed to Spurs’ project, and discussions between Tottenham and West Ham are expected to continue soon.

However, with Tottenham still falling short of West Ham’s valuation after three failed offers, it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites can get the deal over the line before another club makes a late play for the Ghanaian international.
