Man Utd "remain at the window" for 25-goal striker, €52m clause in his contract - report
Manchester United are likely to sign a marquee striker during the ongoing transfer window.
The Red Devils have focused on strengthening their forward department this summer. The club scored only 42 goals in the Premier League last season.
Matheus Cunha has already been signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and talks are ongoing with Brentford over a potential deal for Bryan Mbeumo.
An elite striker could also be pursued, and Corriere dello Sport (page 18) report that United ‘remain at the window’ for Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.
However, the Red Devils have yet to take any concrete steps to sign the Italian striker.
Kean is also undecided about the next step for his career. He has already received a €15m annual salary offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah.
Kean speculation could be agent-driven
United are open to signing a new centre-forward this summer, but that could depend on Rasmus Hojlund heading for the exit door, likely on a permanent transfer.
The club could step up their striker pursuit in that case, but we would be surprised if they consider an offer for Kean due to his past Premier League track record.
Kean had a good debut season with Fiorentina after arriving from Juventus last summer. The 25-year-old scored 25 goals and provided three assists from 44 outings.
La Viola are open to considering his sale for his release clause worth €52m, but we don’t anticipate United making a formal approach to sign the ex-Everton man.
United have already faced disappointment through Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. The duo have struggled to adapt to the higher intensity of the league after arriving from Serie A.
The same could be the case with Kean. The Juventus graduate previously had a forgettable stint with Everton, scoring just a couple of goals from 32 league appearances.
Kean has since improved his hold-up play and high pressing, but still tends to squander big scoring opportunities. He missed a staggering 34 big chances in all competitions last term.
The Italian averaged only seven passes, losing possession almost 10 times per game. He would not suit manager Ruben Amorim’s system, which requires a striker with better distribution skills.
We believe the speculation is agent-driven. United are probably being used as a negotiation tool to attract interest from other elite European clubs during the ongoing transfer window.
