Why Tottenham abandoned pursuit of Eberechi Eze as Crystal Palace set clear stance
It has been revealed that Crystal Palace have now made their transfer stance on Eberechi Eze very clear, which comes as a major blow to Tottenham in their pursuit of the Eagles star.
At the start of last week, it was claimed that Spurs were ready to push ahead with a move for Eze after the player had expressed a desire to move to N17.
However, the situation appears to have changed since then, with reports indicating that Tottenham have backed off from a deal for Eze.
In fact, according to various sources, Arsenal are now more likely to make a move for Eze than Spurs, whose interest in the 27-year-old never went past the exploratory stage, and a new report has shed light on why that might be.
Tottenham told to forget about signing Eberechi Eze on a discount
Football Insider have now said that the England international is keen to play at the highest level and would be prepared to move to Spurs, who can offer him Champions League football.
However, the outlet says that the Eagles have now decided that they will only let the versatile attacker leave if his £68m release clause is met.
Tottenham were hoping to sign Eze for a fee lower than the clause, but they have now been told by Oliver Glasner’s men that it would not be possible.
The report says that this comes as a major blow to Spurs, who have been long-time admirers of Eze, but it is not revealed if that has led to the Lilywhites abandoning their pursuit of the former QPR man.
Crystal Palace want a huge chunk of the Eze clause paid upfront
It was reported a little over a week ago by TEAMtalk that Palace want £45m of Eze’s £68m release clause to be paid upfront.
Soon after that news came to light, various reliable sources, including Alasdair Gold, claimed that Tottenham had withdrawn their interest in Eze.
It thus does not appear Thomas Frank’s men will go back in for the player unless Palace soften their stance.
