Spanish giants want to squeeze a 36% discount out of Tottenham's Daniel Levy
Atletico Madrid are still trying to sign Cristian Romero at a considerable discount, according to a new update in the Spanish press, with the La Liga giants’ valuation of the centre-back falling considerably short of what Tottenham are demanding.
Spurs Web has relayed a number of reports from the British press claiming that Tottenham are only willing to sell Romero for a fee fitting one of the best centre-backs in the world.
Various sources have claimed that Spurs will not be bullied into lowering their £60m asking price for Romero by Atletico’s underhanded tactics.
However, despite this, Spanish publications have made it clear that Atletico have not given up on Romero and will continue negotiations with the Lilywhites for the player who Diego Simeone is a big fan of.
How much Atletico Madrid are willing to pay Tottenham for Cristian Romero
A report from the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now backed up the claim that Daniel Levy wants €70m (£60m) for the centre-back, who has two years left on his deal at the North London club.
The outlet says that Romero is desperate for a new challenge and wants to leave the Premier League side this summer, having made clear his desire to join Los Rojiblancos cl
However, according to MD’s information, the two clubs are not close to agreeing on a deal for the World Cup winner.
It is asserted that Simeone’s men only want to pay somewhere between €45m (£38.8m) and €55m (£47.5m) for the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back. £38.8m would make for a 36% discount from Spurs’ £60m price tag, while even £47.5m would still be a 20% discount.
Are Atletico waiting for Romero to agitate for a move?
Atletico’s unwillingness to meet Tottenham’s asking price despite their continued efforts to land the centre-back indicates that the club are hoping the player takes matters into his own hands.
It was reported by Football Insider a few days ago that Romero could agitate for an exit from Spurs this summer if the two clubs are not able to agree on a fee.
Things will perhaps become clearer regarding the Argentine’s future once he returns to pre-season and has a conversation with new boss Thomas Frank about his plans.
