MLB Pipleline Highlights Red Sox Rookie’s Elite Bat Speed
Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Roman Anthony has caught fire at the plate recently, and entered Wednesday a scorching 9-for-27 over his previous seven games.
Following the first three-hit game of his career on June 28, Anthony followed that up by notching two hits in each of his next two games before a 1-for-4 performance on July 1. More impressively, Major League Baseball’s top prospect is batting .333 with nine hits and four runs scored over his recent stretch and is currently on a five-game hitting streak.
With the extra-base hits also starting to fall after some early tough luck, Anthony’s reputation as a young hitter capable of producing high exit velocities and elite bat speed has certainly followed him to the big leagues. MLB Pipeline recently took a deeper look into where Anthony’s bat speed compares to other Major League hitters since making his debut.
“Roman Anthony shows off his elite bat speed by reaching 75 mph (MLB average is 72) on his latest double. MLB’s top prospect is 9-for-19 with 4 doubles during a 5-game hitting streak for the Red Sox,” noted MLB Pipeline via social media.
Anthony has excelled since taking over the second spot in manager Alex Cora’s lineup. And while it’s certainly a lot of pressure to put on a 21-year-old hitter with 66 career at-bats, it’s beyond clear that his manager and the Red Sox’s front office believe he’s advanced enough at the plate to handle whatever rival pitching staffs decide to attack him with.
