Celtics Owner Trolls Knicks Fans With Savage Championship Ring Flex

The Boston Celtics’ quest to repeat as NBA champions came up short this season, as they were eliminated from the 2025 NBA Playoffs by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

In Game 4, the Celtics’ playoff hopes all but came to an end when Jayson Tatum ruptured his Achilles late in the fourth quarter. The Knicks eventually prevailed in six games, although they would end up losing in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers.

Given the longstanding rivalry between Boston and New York, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see their fan base rubbing this victory in the faces of Celtics fans. On Wednesday, though, the C’s outgoing owner, Wyc Grousbeck, managed to get the last laugh.

Grousbeck made an appearance on the “Club 520 Podcast,” which is hosted by former Celtics guard Jeff Teague, in front of a live audience in New York. When Grousbeck showed up, he made sure to show off his 2024 Finals ring to a crowd that largely consisted of Knicks fans.

“Hey Knicks fans, nice win, but this is what a ring looks like,” Grousbeck said as he arrived on stage, taking a dig at New York’s celebration for beating Boston in the semifinals.

In a surprising move after the C’s 2024 Finals victory, it was announced that the Grousbecks would be selling their majority stake in the franchise. The team was eventually sold to Bill Chisholm, with the price settling in at $6.1 billion.

Grousbeck, who has been the lead owner and governor for the Celtics, revealed that he plans to remain in control of the team through 2028. It’s clear, though, that he will always have a leg up over the Knicks, even if they got the better of the C’s this season.

Boston has since embarked on a busy start to their offseason, trading away a pair of key pieces, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, in an effort to get below the second apron. Now that they are back over the second apron, more moves are sure to follow in the near future.
