Sean Kuraly Might Lose His Old Bruins Number To Teammate
The Boston Bruins are bringing back a familiar face in Sean Kuraly, but fans might see the forward with a new jersey number.
Kuraly wore No. 52 during his five seasons in Boston, but now the number is worn by someone else. Andrew Peeke claimed the number after he was traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2024.
Peeke and Kuraly played three seasons together in Columbus, so when the 32-year-old signed his contract with the Bruins, he gave Peeke a call.
“I think (Peeke) owes me something for wearing it last year,” Kuraly joked to reporters on Wednesday. “We chatted.”
On the NHL website, both players are currently listed under the jersey number. In his four seasons with the Blue Jackets, Kuraly wore No. 7, which is retired by Boston for Phil Esposito.
If Peeke doesn’t give up the number, Kuraly might have to go back to the drawing board for a new jersey number. Even if the forward has to wear a new number, he voiced his excitement on Wednesday about coming back to the city where he started his NHL career.
“Boston, I’ve always had a soft spot for the city, the organization, the team,” Kuraly said. “When we heard from them, it was definitely a spot I could see myself and wanted to end up.”
Kuraly hasn’t been on the Bruins since the 2020-21 season, with only David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman left from that team.
