Micky van de Ven may not be a fan of Tottenham’s latest transfer pursuit
Tottenham fans want Mohammed Kudus at the club this summer, but not everyone might be as excited about it, especially Micky van de Ven.
Tottenham Hotspur are rumoured to be accelerating in their move to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United this summer.
The West Ham man managed five goals and three assists in 32 Premier League games, which are not groundbreaking numbers, yet Spurs supporters believe Kudus would improve the attack of the Lilywhites.
West Ham United and Tottenham are bitter rivals, with Tomas Soucek stating that the Hammers were eager to finish above Spurs last season and that the clash between the two sides is one the Hammers fans always look forward to.
Former Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker also stated that the derby match against West Ham was more intense than that against Arsenal and Chelsea during his time in north London.
Still, reports suggest that for the first time since 2011, a West Ham United player could be heading to Hotspur Way, after Scott Parker last made that switch. But the latest rumours may not exactly be thrilling to Micky van de Ven, and here is why.
Micky van de Ven’s past clash with Mohammed Kudus could create awkward Tottenham moment
In matchday eight of last season, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United locked horns at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what was the first derby clash between the two sides that campaign.
The game, while generally played in good spirits, descended into chaos in the final minutes after Micky van de Ven went in for a challenge on Kudus.
The Dutch defender won the ball cleanly, but was unhappy with Kudus, who appeared to lash out cynically at him in the follow-through.
What followed was a scuffle between both sets of players, with the Ghanaian eventually shown a red card after a VAR check confirmed that he had raised his hand and struck both Van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr in the face.
At that point, Tottenham were already 4-1 up, with goals from Dejan Kulusevski (36′), Yves Bissouma (52′), an Alphonse Areola own goal (55′) and Heung-min Son (60′), after Kudus had opened the scoring for West Ham in the 18th minute.
With emotions boiling over, the Ghana international lost his cool and was sent off, receiving a three-match suspension.
Van de Ven upset by FA fine after Kudus incident
After the match, Micky van de Ven made it clear he was not pleased with the FA’s decision to fine Tottenham £20,000, especially after he was punched in the face by Kudus.
When quizzed about the incident, the Dutchman said: “What I can remember is that I had a duel with Kudus and I fell down on the ground and I had the feeling that he kicked too much through on the ball.
“He tried to kick the ball, but hit me twice, three times. I was obviously a bit mad in this situation and I stood up and I pushed him and then the situation happened from his side.
“He literally punched me in the face as I went down! To be honest, I do not know what happened afterwards, I did not really see what happened afterwards, but that is the situation. The FA said we need to get fined for this. It is not how I think about it. If I think about it, it would be a different situation.”
While Van de Ven’s conduct was not entirely violent, he still picked up a yellow card for his role in the melee.
However, with the chances of the pair becoming teammates now possible, Van de Ven will need to find a way to forgive the West Ham man, as they could now be fighting for silverware together.
Tottenham fans may remember that awkward first meeting between Cristian Romero and Richarlison after their past on-pitch beef.
