Tottenham fans name two England U21 stars they want Spurs to sign this summer

0 5

Tottenham supporters who tuned in to watch England U21s lift the European Championship trophy against Germany on Saturday night were left wanting Spurs to snap up two of the Young Lions’ heroes.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with midfielder James McAtee of Manchester City, with interest dating back to the winter window.

McAtee now has just one year left on his current deal, and with Manchester City open to a sale, his name is firmly on the market.

While Tottenham are reportedly keen, Bundesliga side Stuttgart have also shown interest in signing McAtee, and both Bayer Leverkusen and Frankfurt are monitoring the situation closely.

Tottenham fans weigh in on James McAtee signing

Reports suggest Tottenham will prioritise strengthening their midfield this summer, with James McAtee seen as a realistic option.

To gauge fan sentiment, we took to social media to ask whether Tottenham supporters want the club to move for the Manchester City talent.

One fan responded: “No, we do not need another 10. Maddison and Kulusevski will do the job. We need versatile wide players or forwards and a defensive midfielder.”

Another, while not fully convinced, saw some merit: “Nah, we do not need another pocket player. Bring me Simons or Kudus – elite pace and power. Would not hate it though, as he is very good.”

A more enthusiastic fan said: “Yes. Chelsea signed Palmer for £40 million and he is at least double that now. McAtee has similar ability. Harvey Elliott is worth investing in, although he has history with his Kane mocking.”

Another added: “If McAtee is really available for £25 million, surely that’s a no-brainer?! Young, cheap and English. He’d be a great addition.”

One supporter leaned more towards a Liverpool midfielder: “Rather Elliott. Do not think we need another youngster unless they are a right winger for cover.”

Another agreed: “McAtee is good BUT Elliott is better. He is proven in the Premier League and in European competitions. Would be good rotation for either Kulusevski or Maddison.”

One Spurs supporter even wants the club to sign both: “If we are not going to sign Eze, Mbeumo or Semenyo. Tottenham must go all out to get McAtee and Harvey Elliott.”

They weren’t the only one to share that sentiment, as another fan wrote: “James McAtee and Harvey Elliott are massive market opportunities this summer, and whoever gets their hands on them as a potential superstar at a cut-price deal. I really hope one of them comes to Spurs.”

Jamie O’Hara wants to see Harvey Elliott at Spurs too

Tottenham supporters are not alone in wanting to see Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott make the switch to north London.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has also encouraged the club to make a move for Elliott this summer, suggesting he could compete with Brennan Johnson down the right flank.

While O’Hara sees similarities between Elliott and Dejan Kulusevski, he believes the Liverpool man has that extra bit of craft and flexibility, capable of playing centrally as a 10, in deeper midfield roles, or out wide.
