Only two Tottenham away kits have ever been better than 2025/26 black beauty - Opinion

0 17

Tottenham Hotspur recently dropped their brand-new, all-black away kit and it is up there with the club’s best all-time jerseys – but what is the best of all time?

Tottenham have launched a new black away kit for next season, and it is already proving to be a hit. The shirt is not simple by any means, as it features a chequered design. However, there is less going on than last season’s blue away strip, which divided opinions.

Rapper and Tottenham supporter AJ Tracey is one of many to have reacted to the kit. Last August, he claimed to have spoken to the club a couple of years earlier about making a triple black kit.

Many clubs have launched popular blackout kits, a type of shirt which was not permitted until 1992, as it was the colour referees wore.

The new Spurs kit may not be completely black, but it certainly provides a classy look as Tottenham seek to rediscover some stability in the Premier League.

Many fans will agree this is one of the best Tottenham away jerseys yet, but where does the new shirt rank in an all-time list?

3. Tottenham 2025/26 away kit

Rating shirts is a subjective matter, but we have put Tottenham’s first black away shirt in more than a decade as their third best of all time.

There have been some clean designs in the past few years, such as the navy 2023/24 shirt with a rainbow foil badge and the smart green jersey from 2020/2,1 which instantly brings to mind Gareth Bale.

However, the new kit just has the edge, as it is a new look for Spurs and kind of looks like Tobey Maguire’s suit in Spiderman 3.

Spurs will hope to become their own superheroes as they wear the kit, as the Tottenham first-team squad look to continue lifting silverware after their Europa League triumph.

This is the kind of kit we do not see anymore, and it is a real shame. The bright yellow shirt was paired with shorts of the same colour, while the navy collar toned things down a bit. The pattern on the left sleeve added some character, creating an outstanding kit.

As good as the new away kit is, the yellow Umbro effort just has something unique and special about it. To dare is to do, and the kit manufacturer certainly delivered on that message.

Love it or hate it, this kit is certainly one to catch the eye, despite it featuring darker colours. The purple and navy Pony jersey manages to remain smart, whilst combining two shades which would never be paired together in this day and age, and yet pair together so elegantly.

Purple has since been used on a few Spurs kits, but none of them came close to being this good. Modelling a future shirt on this design would definitely have our seal of approval.

Will the new Tottenham kit be remembered?

The legacy of a kit can change drastically depending on the season it was worn. Tottenham’s green 2018/19 third kit was not the most popular when it was released. However, after being worn in the Champions League when Spurs survived a late scare against Manchester City, and made a dramatic comeback against Ajax, it is one of the club’s most iconic shirts of all time.

The new away kit is most likely to be worn in domestic competitions, and hopefully it will live long in the memory, not just for being a nice shirt, but for everything Tottenham achieve whilst wearing it.
