Tottenham dubbed ‘ones to watch’ in race for Colombia international midfielder

0 5

One midfielder is continuing to turn heads with his impressive performances in the Club World Cup, and journalist Ben Jacobs has now named Tottenham as one of the leading contenders to secure the player’s signature this summer.

It has been widely reported that Thomas Frank is prioritising signing a defensive midfielder this summer, which does not come as a surprise, considering that Yves Bissouma is being tipped to leave Tottenham.

A South American star, who has been winning admirers with his performances in Brazil, has been on Spurs’ radar long before Frank arrived through the door.

Spurs reportedly had an offer turned down from Palmeiras for Richard Rios in January and various outlets have claimed that Tottenham could go back in for Rios this summer.

Tottenham are keen on Richard Rios but Nottingham Forest steal a march

The 25-year-old’s stock has continued to rise over the last few weeks in light of his impressive displays for Palmeiras at the Club World Cup.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now named Tottenham as ‘ones to watch’ in the race for Richard Rios, but he revealed that Nottingham Forest are the only club to make contact with the midfielder so far.

When asked about the speculation on Rios, he told The United Stand: “At the moment he’s only focused on the Club World Cup and he’s been fantastic, we’re definitely seeing growing interest as a consequence. At this stage, I’m not aware of Manchester United making any sort of approach or any move on the player’s side.

“Nottingham Forest are the only Premier League team I know who have actually made contact on the player’s side. If he continues to perform and put himself in the shop window there will be other clubs, Manchester United could be one of them. Tottenham Hotspur are another club to watch, PSG really like the player too.”

How much will Richard Rios cost this summer?

Just a few days ago, AS confirmed Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder and revealed that Palmeiras will demand €25m (£21.3m) for Rios this summer.

The outlet backed up Forest’s interest in the 25-year-old and added that the midfielder is also on the radar of Crystal Palace.

It has previously been reported that Man United and Porto may challenge Spurs in the race for Rios’ signature.
