Craig Breslow Issues Update On Alex Bregman Contract Talks
The Boston Red Sox are missing Alex Bregman. The team ranks near the bottom of the league in several offensive categories since the departure of Rafael Devers and could use a spark.
The third baseman is unlikely to return until after the All-Star break, but the team wants to ensure they don’t lose his services for longer. Bregman can opt out of his contract after this season, but extension talks may be underway.
Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, was in attendance for the Red Sox game against the Angels on Monday. It was reported that he may have been there to discuss a reworked contract with Red Sox leaders.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow spoke about extension talks on the Greg Hill Show on WEEI.
“The specifics of the conversation and the timing of the conversation will remain internal,” Breslow said. “When the right time comes to have those conversations, I’m very, very confident that we will.”
Breslow also spoke about how they’ve been very happy with what Bregman has brought to the table, both on the field and off it. Bregman notably focused on helping Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer with their swings during a clubhouse celebration following a sweep of the Yankees.
Bregman hit .299 with 11 home runs before getting injured. He also played solid defense, 1 OAA per Baseball Savant, though Mayer has provided quality defense at the hot corner in Bregman’s absence.
