NBA Rumors: Celtics ‘Laughed At’ This Trade Offer For Derrick White
The Toronto Raptors apparently thought they might be able to take advantage of a desperate Brad Stevens.
The Ringer’s Zach Lowe on Thursday reported the Raptors tried to acquire Boston Celtics guard Derrick White for the No. 9 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Lowe’s reporting surfaced after Clutch Points’ Brett Siegel reported the same Wednesday.
Lowe, however, provided some intel into Boston’s reaction to such offer.
“There were reports that the Raptors offered the No. 9 pick for Derrick White,” Lowe said on the “Zach Lowe Show,” as transcribed by MassLive’s Brian Robb. “I’m told that’s true but that it happened a month and a half ago after Jayson Tatum got hurt and Boston laughed at that offer and said we need way more than No. 9 for Derrick White.”
The Green were widely expected to shed salary this offseason. And their roster uncertainty was compounded following Tatum’s ruptured Achilles during the Eastern Conference semifinals in mid-May. The Raptors tried to take advantage of the situation.
Stevens, though, rebuffed the proposal and instead made different changes. Boston traded Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers and Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks this week.
It likely means White isn’t going anywhere — especially for a lowball offer.
