Man United now want to sign highly rated £34m midfielder, but there is a big problem
Manchester United have quietly entered the conversation for one of Europe’s most exciting midfield prospects, Ardon Jashari.
According to the Mirror, United officials have held talks with representatives of the Club Brugge midfielder ahead of a potential summer move.
The 22-year-old is in high demand this summer. Plenty of clubs across the continent have registered an interest, but AC Milan are reportedly more advanced than the rest.
However, United are keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s situation.
United are in the middle of a squad rebuild. The Red Devils are set to fully back Ruben Amorim in the transfer market after a disastrous debut campaign at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese head coach wants to build a squad capable of executing his highly demanding brand of football, and United are looking to switch things up across the board.
For now, the attacking areas and midfield are the priorities. But the goalkeeping situation is still fluid, while there could be another addition to the backline.
United have kicked off the summer transfer window with a bang, forking out £62 million to snap up Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
They’re also in talks with Brentford over a big-money deal for Bryan Mbeumo. They’re facing serious competition from Tottenham Hotspur, but Mbeumo is reportedly leaning towards a move to Old Trafford.
While that’s in the pipeline, United are still keeping an eye out for potential midfield reinforcements.
They’ve been linked with Atalanta’s Ederson, but Jasahri is the latest name on their radar. Club Brugge wouldn’t stand in the midfielder’s way but are demanding £34m to sanction a deal.
It wouldn’t be a problem for United if they weren’t already threading a tightrope with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. But they’re still in the mix.
The only problem is that Jashari is determined to join a club that can offer Champions League football.
The Switzerland international has already turned down Fulham and West Ham United, who were hoping to lure him to the Premier League.
It remains to be seen if things would be different if United acted on their interest, but Jasahri would be a decent acquisition for the Red Devils.
