Red Sox Legend Impressed By Alex Bregman

Prior to being placed on the 60-day injured list with a right quadriceps strain, Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman was putting together a strong case for an All-Star selection. He hit .299 with 11 home runs, 17 doubles, and 35 RBI before being sidelined in late May.

Bregman’s leadership, Gold Glove caliber defense, and right-handed swing have all looked like a perfect fit for Fenway Park and inside the home clubhouse.

With recent hints from manager Alex Cora that his IL stint could come to an end sooner than previously expected, the team will certainly be more dangerous when his bat returns to the Red Sox starting lineup.

That being said, Red Sox legend and 2005 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Wade Boggs is a big fan of Bregman’s fit in Boston. While sitting down for a wide-ranging discussion with former big leaguer and current MLB Network analyst Xavier Scruggs, the former Red Sox third baseman spoke of why he views Bregman as a perfect fit with the team.

“Coincidentally, he probably hit in one of the greatest ballparks in Houston,” said Boggs.” I mean, with that short porch in left field, he figured out how to use it. Right now, he comes over to Boston, and he’s got the same situation, right?”

Boggs obviously knows a thing or two about using the Green Monster to create offense. He was considered a doubles machine during his 11 seasons in Boston, twice leading the AL in the category during the 1988 and 1989 seasons. Boggs expanded on what has made Bregman successful during his first year in Boston.

“They brought over a Gold Glover and increased the defense, and he knows how to hit at Fenway Park,” added Boggs.”He stays away from right field, and even when you pitch him away, he can still pull the ball.”

That’s high praise from one of the greatest to ever wear a Red Sox uniform.
