Red Sox Reveal Rafael Devers Trade Return’s Injury Timeline
Did you get confused reading that headline?
Sorry.
The Boston Red Sox haven’t been able to enjoy their return after trading Rafael Devers last Sunday, with all four players currently working their way toward debuts. Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs III and Jose Bello are in the minor leagues, while Jordan Hicks is rehabbing from an injury.
It’s only a matter of time until the latter returns, however.
Hicks is beginning his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, and expected to join the big club on their next homestand beginning next weekend at Fenway Park, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. Red Sox manager Alex Cora says the target date is Friday.
Are you picking up on the headline now?
Hicks, 28, has struggled this season to the tune of a 6.47 ERA in nine starts before hitting the injured list with right toe inflammation. Boston is expected to stick him back in the bullpen, however, where he found great success during stints with the St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays.
The Red Sox will surely be happy to have him whenever he does return, as it could help ease the pressure on late-inning bullpen arms like Aroldis Chapman and Greg Weissert.
