‘Nightmare’ Premier League winger would prefer to join Liverpool over Arsenal
Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has reportedly made it clear he would choose Liverpool over Arsenal or Chelsea, amid speculation linking him to several top Premier League clubs.
At an estimated £75 million, Gordon has emerged as one of the most sought after players this summer.
The English winger was linked with a move to Liverpool last summer but Newcastle United eventually managed to keep the player at the club who went on to help the Magpies in qualifying for the Champions League as well as ending their trophy drought.
Anthony Gordon would prefer to join Liverpool
According to TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, Gordon has expressed a preference to join Liverpool, even though Chelsea and Arsenal have emerged as serious contenders for the Newcastle United star’s signature.
Both London clubs are believed to be exploring options to reinforce the left flank of their attack ahead of the new season, and Gordon’s name features prominently on their shortlists.
Despite the strong interest from Premier League rivals, Bailey reports that Gordon’s heart lies with Liverpool, his boyhood club.
Bailey said: “One day I think he probably will end up at Liverpool. Will it be this summer? I very much doubt it.
“But Liverpool is his preferred option. He’s on the list of the other clubs I would say. We know Chelsea and Arsenal both want that left side upgrading. It’s not a secret and it’s a player they like.”
Gordon is a valuable asset for Newcastle United
After arriving from Everton in January 2023, he has become a key figure under Eddie Howe, praised for his work ethic, pressing ability, and direct attacking style.
Known for his direct, unpredictable style, Gordon described his own strengths bluntly:
“I know I’m a nightmare for anyone that I play against.”
For now, it seems Gordon will stay put at St. James’ Park, but the long-term ambition to wear Liverpool red hasn’t gone unnoticed.
The winger’s desire to play at Anfield may yet become reality, even if it’s not in this window.
The Reds also hold an advantage in the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
