Red Sox Division Rival Thrilled By Rafael Devers Trade

The Rafael Devers trade has dominated the baseball news cycle. Boston Red Sox fans, San Francisco Giants fans, and everyone in between have an opinion on what happened.

Of course, when a major move happens, fans aren’t the only ones who have a take. Players from around the league have weighed in as well. Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn appeared on Foul Territory Tuesday and gave his two cents on the transaction.

“I just wanna shoutout Craig Breslow real quick. Appreciate you, man,” he laughed.

O’Hearn appreciated the move because it removed Devers from the All-Star race and vaulted the Orioles’ slugger into the lead vote-getter among DHs. O’Hearn is hitting .306 with 10 home runs in 59 games this season.

The designated hitter was as surprised by the move as anyone, but recognized the Red Sox’s reasoning for the deal.

“Whenever you get paid that kind of money, and you kinda are dancing to the beat of your own drum, and you don’t want to do what you’re asked, things like this happen,” O’Hearn told the show’s hosts.

The lefty could be a potential trade target for the Red Sox if Baltimore decides to sell. O’Hearn is in the final year of his contract, and the Orioles are currently in last place in the American League East and 6 1/2 games back in the wild card chase.

O’Hearn has spent time at first base, where his defense grades well. He’s also played corner outfield and served as the designated hitter for Baltimore. With the departure of Rafael Devers, adding a power-hitting, versatile, left-handed bat may be a priority for the Red Sox at the deadline.

The full interview with O’Hearn is available on YouTube.
