NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant Wanted To Be Traded To Celtics?!
Kevin Durant is likely to be traded this offseason, but if it was up to the Phoenix Suns superstar such a deal reportedly would’ve taken place before the NBA trade deadline.
Durant already would be a member of the Boston Celtics.
“There were rumblings at the trade deadline KD (Durant) wanted to land with the Celtics or Knicks,” Yahoo Sports’ NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor wrote Tuesday morning.
Durant being traded to Boston, as O’Connor wrote, was and continues to be “highly unlikely.” The 36-year-old will earn $54.7 million during the 2025-26 campaign, his final season under contract. The Green are in no position to trade for his money, or re-sign Durant for more.
The Celtics have a historic payroll entering next season, and everyone around the league expects them to sell off salary this offseason. The full scope of such sale isn’t yet known but Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Sam Hauser and others all have been included in trade speculation.
If Durant ventures back to the Eastern Conference, it almost certainly won’t be Boston. Or even New York. Miami, however, might be a possibility as Durant reportedly would sign long-term in South Beach.
