'Warm working relationship' with Amorim set to hand lifeline to £43.8m Man United flop
Manchester United are bracing for a summer clear-out as they look to recover from a nightmarish 2024–25 campaign.
Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia spent at least six months out on loan last season and are most likely to exit Old Trafford permanently this summer.
The spotlight is also firmly on Andre Onana, whose turbulent two-year stint has plunged his United future into doubt.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Andre Onana is expected to stay at United despite struggling due to his warm working relationship with manager Ruben Amorim.
The 29-year-old joined United from Inter Milan for a fee of £43.8 million in the summer of 2023.
Fuel was added to the fire when Onana refused to rule out a summer exit, keeping speculation over his future alive.
He has been among United’s most underwhelming performers, with costly errors undermining his status as the club’s number one.
Despite multiple blunders in key moments, Onana has shown little improvement, a worrying trend for a team aiming to compete at the highest level.
He performed decently at the start of last season but the mistakes crept back in and derailed any momentum he had built from December 2024 onwards.
Matheus Cunha even embarrassed him with a goal straight from a corner.
Onana also failed to command his box in the Europa League final against Spurs, allowing Brennan Johnson to snatch a historic winner without much resistance.
His back-up Altay Bayindir has been equally error-prone, forcing Amorim to choose Onana consistently.
United are in dire need of a goalkeeping upgrade, but with attacking reinforcements taking priority, the issue may go unresolved.
Cunha has made his way to Old Trafford, and Bryan Mbeumo could be the next headline addition in a reshaped United front line.
They are also battling with several elite clubs to secure a world-class striker.
