How Mookie Betts Reacted To Shocking Trade Of Rafael Devers

Mookie Betts is no stranger to surprise trades.

But even the former Boston Red Sox star was shocked to hear the organization traded slugger Rafael Devers on Sunday.

After Boston’s 2-0 win over the New York Yankees, the Red Sox traded Devers to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Kyle Harrison, Jordan Hicks and two prospects.

“I just thought it was crazy,” Betts told the Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. “Nothing really to say, it’s just crazy.”

Devers will join former Red Sox teammates Betts and Xander Bogaerts in the National League West.

While Betts doesn’t have a plan to reach out to Devers, he will see him in July when the Dodgers play the Giants.

“I’ll see him real soon and I’ll be laughing and joking with him as I always do,” Betts said.

The Giants are a big rival of Betts’ Dodgers with Los Angeles having a two-game advantage in the NL West over San Francisco. The addition of Devers is likely to boost the Giants as they head deeper into the season.

“I mean, they care, they want to win,” Betts said. “Those guys over there are doing a great job of putting a team together and obviously, they want to win.”
