PL club 'going hard' for 20-goal star, ready to offer 'higher salary' than Man United

0 7

Manchester United are looking to bolster their attack after a turbulent 2024-25 campaign.

They have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and are eager to add Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo to their ranks.

Tottenham Hotspur appointed Thomas Frank as their new manager and lodged a £70 million bid to sign Mbeumo.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Spurs are “going hard” for Mbeumo and are potentially prepared to offer him a higher salary.

Despite Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy pushing for the 25-year-old, United are regarded as the front-runners on account of the player’s wish to join the club.

Mbeumo has one year left on his deal at Brentford and is ready to take the next step in his career.

He enjoyed success at the Bees, playing six years under Frank’s guidance. A move to Spurs could reunite him with his former head coach.

United will not be featuring in any European competition next term but that has not deterred Mbeumo from picking Old Trafford as his first choice.

Mbeumo smashed 20 goals and recorded eight assists across all competitions in the recently concluded campaign.

His addition to the United squad will make a big statement to other clubs.

United lack the firepower up front and are determined to find solutions this summer.

Mbeumo will seamlessly fit into Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, having excelled in a similar role at Brentford.

The Cameroon international will be a dream partner for Cunha, with Bruno Fernandes potentially playing in a deeper role next season.

Their initial offer of £45m and £10m in add-ons was swiftly rejected by the Bees but United are expected to table an improved offer soon.

The Red Devils are also linked with a move for a new centre-forward that will complete the overhaul of their attack.

Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike, Jonathan David and Jean-Philippe Mateta are on their shortlist.
