Red Sox Rumors: Start Of Rafael Devers Trade Talks Revealed?
Rafael Devers was traded from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
Why did that happen? When did talks start? Where will this lead?
It’s impossible to answer those questions in the immediate aftermath of the deal, but things have started to trickle out in the hours sense everyone’s social media timeline’s were flooded with the same sort of reactions.
ESPN’s Buster Olney helped provide context on the deal from an outsider’s perspective, really helping answer that first question beyond what was obvious. MassLive’s Sean McAdam did the same with the second question, dropping the following blurb into his notebook in the aftermath of the trade:
Late Friday afternoon, some 90 minutes before the team was to begin a weekend series with the New York Yankees, Cora cancelled some previously scheduled media obligations because of some meetings in his office. It’s believed that the notion of dealing Devers to the Giants began there, with talks continuing throughout the weekend and culminating late Sunday afternoon.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow appears to work quickly, folks.
McAdam didn’t firmly state whether or not trade talks began early in the weekend, but that timeline would back up other reports. Olney previously reported that there weren’t any other teams involved in discussions, so you’d have to imagine they wouldn’t need very long to come to a conclusion — which has the face of one franchise set to join another.
