Tick tock: Man United and Arsenal to submit their offers for striker in ‘coming hours’

0 16

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to table a formal bid for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in the coming hours, according to Record (page 5).

United plan to submit an official proposal imminently following meetings between Gyokeres’ representatives and both Man United and Arsenal.

Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas has publicly dismissed claims of a “gentleman’s agreement” that would enable Gyokeres to leave for around €60–70 million, instead insisting the club expects closer to €80 million for the 27-year-old striker.

Man United face financial dilemma for Gyokeres deal

Tensions have escalated further, with The Sun suggesting Gyokeres has threatened strike action, announcing he “will never play for Sporting again” if a move does not materialise.

While Sporting have a €100 million release clause, Varandas has conceded they are “not demanding the full €100m,” but are “not budging for €60m plus €10m” either.

Negotiations will pivot on whether United, or any bidder, can structure a deal acceptable to Sporting while meeting their financial fair play and squad needs.

Both Man United and Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their attack this summer, have identified Gyokeres as their primary target.

While the Gunners have also been involved in talks with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Gyokeres is also firmly on their radar and that could be bad news for Ruben Amorim and his team.

The attacker may prefer a move to the Gunners as they can offer him the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season, unlike United.

The Red Devils have a trump card in their hands though, they have the option of reuniting Gyokeres with his former manager Amorim.

Both the Premier League sides have now entered a crucial stage in this transfer saga and it remains to be seen who wins the race to sign the Sporting striker.
