This will be painful viewing for Liverpool fans, but it has seemed inevitable for some time now that Alexander-Arnold would be on the move this summer.
The 26-year-old was in the final year of his contract with the Reds, and in the end Real even signed him early so he could participate in this summer’s Club World Cup, as per BBC Sport and others.
Liverpool have already replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold
Alexander-Arnold was a hugely influential player for Liverpool in recent years, playing over 350 games for the club in total.
During that time, Trent won two Premier League titles, and appeared in three Champions League finals, winning one of them.
He also picked up major honours such as the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and has 33 England caps to his name.
Clearly, replacing someone like this will never be easy, but Liverpool recently announced the signing of Jeremie Frimpong on their official site.
The Netherlands international looked hugely impressive during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga title in 2023/24 and even scored 14 goals from right wing-back that season.
Frimpong looks ideal to fill the void left by Alexander-Arnold, and it will also be interesting to see how the former LFC man gets on in Spain.
We’ve previously been other big-name Brits moving from the Premier League to the Bernabeu, such as Gareth Bale, David Beckham, Steve McManaman, and Michael Owen, with mixed results.
Alexander-Arnold will also be joined by England teammate Jude Bellingham in Madrid.
UPDATE: Alexander-Arnold has also been pictured holding his Real Madrid shirt, as he’s set to wear number 12 for his new club:
