Ex-Bruin Brad Marchand Has Vintage Stanley Cup Final Performance

Brad Marchand’s outstanding playoff legacy continued to grow on Friday night in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Does that hurt to read? Sorry.

Marchand potted the game-winner in double overtime to help the Florida Panthers knot up the series at one game apiece with the Edmonton Oilers. It’s a playoff tradition at this point, but the biggest pest in the game once again silenced his home country with a beautiful breakaway goal.

Marchand didn’t just show up in overtime, either, scoring a shorthanded goal in regulation that came exactly 14 years after his shorthanded goal against the Vancouver Canucks in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. The Athletic’s Chris Johnston shared that with the overtime tally, the four-time All-Star now has more goals in the final than any other active player (10).

Sidney Crosby. Alex Ovechkin. Patrick Kane. Marchand outpaces them all.

Not bad.

The Boston Bruins, looking to recoup some lost assets spent during their last two runs at a cup, traded Marchand to their rival back on March 7. The Panthers sent back a conditional pick that became a first-rounder when they advanced to play in the final round for the third consecutive season.

Was it worth it?

I bet you at least one side will say yes…
