"Not far away": £59m star does not dismiss Man Utd move amid Arsenal & Chelsea interest - report

0 1

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has not ruled out a move to Manchester United amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea this summer, according to O Jogo (page 10).

The Sweden international had a sensational 2024/25 campaign with Sporting CP. He registered 54 goals and 13 assists from just 52 appearances for the Portuguese champions.

The 27-year-old is prepared to pursue a bigger challenge away from Lisbon, but as things stand, he has yet to receive any formal offers on the table from elite European clubs.

Gyokeres has his sights on playing Champions League football. If Arsenal and Chelsea don’t step forward, a reunion with United manager Ruben Amorim is ‘not far away’ for the striker.

United could realistically move for Gyokeres

The Red Devils have already secured an agreement to land Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha. They are also negotiating the transfer of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.

A new striker could be the next priority after Mbeumo’s arrival. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has been linked, but his hefty £350,000 weekly wage demand remains a huge stumbling block.

Hence, the club could realistically turn to Gyokeres. He earns £39,000 per week at Sporting CP. Even a five-fold increase on his salary would see him below the £200,000 weekly bracket.

The Swede has a £84 million release clause in his contract but can depart for around £59m.

The former Coventry City man has a ‘verbal agreement‘ over personal terms with Arsenal, but the Gunners are clearly prioritising the transfer of RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Chelsea have been credited with an interest, but the Blues have already signed Liam Delap to bolster their strike force. The Blues are also pushing to recruit Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Should those two deals go through, United could have a free run at purchasing Gyokeres. He appears keen on a Premier League move, and a reunion with Amorim would be perfect.

Gyokeres would be an undisputed starter for the Red Devils and would provide a significant upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Hojlund is attracting interest from Inter Milan.

The Swede could form a dream attack alongside Cunha and Mbeumo with Bruno Fernandes operating in the number eight role. United could genuinely be in the mix for the league title.
