Joe Sacco Reportedly Leaving Bruins To Join This Team’s Staff
Joe Sacco reportedly won’t return to the Bruins next season, but he’ll remain on the East Coast.
After Boston named Marco Sturm as its next head coach, Sacco landed a gig on Mike Sullivan’s staff with the New York Rangers, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and The Athletic’s Peter Baugh on Thursday. David Quinn and Ty Hennes also are expected to join Sullivan; the trio of assistants all played college hockey in Boston.
Sacco joined the Bruins as an assistant coach on Claude Julien’s staff in 2014. He was promoted to associate head coach last season and took over as interim head coach after Jim Montgomery was fired. Sacco went 24-30-6 as interim head coach and was among multiple candidates interviewed during Boston’s head coach search.
The Medford, Mass., native will continue his assistant role of leading the penalty kill on Sullivan’s staff as he and the Bruins move on to different paths.
