A lad I know from Carlisle who goes to a lot of games said the story at the time of the transfer was that because Carlisle were so skint when we bought him they gave up some or all of their sell on clause in return for a higher initial fee up front. That could be true but it didn't totally wiped out the sell on clause, Nigel Clibbens who's chief executive confirmed last year at a fan forum that they had a clause.
It's League Two, (well national league now) so £5m would be a significant amount to them so it doesn't mean they've got a 15% sell on clause.“I’ve said in the past, whereas [in] the deals for James Trafford and Dean Henderson [who both made Premier League moves last summer], the sell-ons we would get from those weren’t transformational for the club, if Jarrad continues to develop and goes for the sort of money that the media are speculating about, that would bring a significant amount of money into this club, which would allow it to deliver on the plans that we need to do,” said Clibbens.
