Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy argue over Pedro Porro’s comments on Ange Postecoglou
Danny Murphy and Simon Jordan disagree on whether Daniel Levy should take the Tottenham squad’s feelings into account while deciding on Ange Postecoglou’s future after Pedro Porro became the latest Spurs star to call for the Australian to stay.
As we await an official confirmation from the club regarding their managerial situation, a host of Spurs players have made it clear what they want to happen.
Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray suggested Postecoglou deserves a third season at Tottenham after guiding the club to European glory.
More recently, Pedro Porro admitted he would love to see Postecoglou continue at Spurs, describing the Australian as a “winner”.
Simon Jordan says the opinion of the Tottenham squad does not matter
Apart from these comments, there have also been several reports which have suggested that Postecoglou remains a popular figure in the Tottenham dressing room.
While Murphy believes that the sentiment of the dressing room should be a consideration for Levy when making his choice, Jordan insists it would be undermining for the Tottenham chairman to speak to the players about his decision on the managerial situation.
When asked if the players’ views about Postecoglou had been canvassed by Levy, Murphy told talkSPORT: “I would hope so. I think that it would be stupid not to. It doesn’t mean you listen.”
Simon Jordan disagreed with that comment, arguing: “That’s so massively undermining. It’s hugely undermining. If you’re the owner of the football club and you are going to his employees to ask what they think of him, you are undermining by definition.
“So he goes to the players [and says] ‘I like Ange, I’m really behind him,’ what do you think the players are going to do then? If you go to the players to canvass their opinion, I am fascinated to see how you think that works, because I can’t see a way that works.”
Player power is the only thing working in Postecoglou’s favour
The reports coming out of Tottenham over the last few days suggest that a decision has already been made to sack Postecoglou.
One can understand why that would be the case, with many feeling that Levy simply cannot afford to look past 22 league defeats.
The only thing working in the Australian’s favour is the support of the players, which seems unequivocal. However, that alone will not be enough to sway Levy’s and Fabio Paratici’s thinking.
They will believe that if they bring the right manager in, he will be able to win over the squad quickly.
