International Round-Up: First Scotland Goal For McGovern
It was a memorable international break for Hibs Women pair Kathleen McGovern and Rosie Livingstone!
Kathleen McGovern – Scotland ‘A’ Squad
An unforgettable season draws to a close following a special international break for Kathleen McGovern.
Fresh off the back of an incredible title-winning campaign – in which our forward scored 31 times, earned an unprecedented three SWPL Player of the Month awards and picked up Hibs Women’s Goal of the Season award – McGovern made a name for herself on the international stage.
The 22-year-old made her Scotland debut versus Austria at Hampden Park in the first of two UEFA Nations League fixtures for new boss Melissa Andreatta to tackle. McGovern, who worked tirelessly in attack at the national stadium, played for 73 minutes before being replaced.
Four days later, McGovern started again as Scotland faced the Netherlands in Tilburg and would score her first international goal!
Clever movement allowed McGovern to lose her marker and stab in an 27th minute equaliser. Scotland would hold on against the 2019 FIFA World Cup finalists to earn their first points of their difficult Nations League campaign thanks to McGov’s smart finish.
Rosie Livingstone – Scotland Under-23s
Young forward Rosie Livingstone also stepped up to a new national squad for the first time during the international break.
The 19-year-old was the only Hibee selected in Michael McArdle’s squad following McGovern’s promotion to the ‘A’ Squad and injuries suffered to Michaela McAlonie and Tegan Bowie.
Livingstone started from the bench in the first of two friendly meetings against Iceland at the Falkirk Stadium, but would be introduced as a second-half substitute as the close-fought clash ended 2-2.
A start would follow in the second encounter, with Livingstone unfortunate not to score during her side’s 2-1 victory over the visitors.
