David Ornstein shares late Wed night update as Man Utd table official bid for African star
Manchester United have tabled an opening offer worth up to £55 million for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Cameroon international wants to join the Red Devils ahead of other suitors, and the Old Trafford club have submitted a bid valuing him at £45m plus £10m in add-ons.
However, Man United may need to improve their offer as their first bid is some way below the kind of fee it would take for Brentford to consider selling the 26-year-old.
Talks are ongoing as they look to reach an agreement with Brentford and Mbeumo, with their head coach desperate to bolster his attacking ranks this summer.
It has been reported that the Bees star wants £250,000 per week to join Man United, around five times what he currently takes home at the Gtech Community Stadium club, and it appears the Red Devils are open to doing a deal.
Only three players scored more than the 20 Premier League goals Mbeumo notched in 2024-25, and landing him could be huge for the Portuguese after Brazilian attacker Matheus Cunha joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
The South American notched 15 league goals and six assists during the just-concluded campaign, and an attack featuring him and the African could deliver the goods for Man United next season after an underwhelming 2024-25.
Amorim also wants to sign a number 9 and has succeeded in convincing midfielder Bruno Fernandes to reject the eye-watering offer from Al-Hilal, and INEOS appear ready to back him in the transfer window and help him rebuild the squad ahead of his first full season in charge.
Brentford are ready to sell Mbeumo for the right price and the onus is on the Red Devils to return to the negotiation table with a fee good enough to convince them to part with the winger.
