Exclusive: £55m bid made as Chelsea resume talks for “electric” Liverpool transfer target
Chelsea have made a £55m bid for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens after resuming talks over a potential deal, CaughtOffside understands.
The Blues first registered an interest in Gittens back in January, though Dortmund were not ready to sell the English youngster at that point.
Now, however, Chelsea are back in talks to try to get a deal done as it’s been decided that Gittens can leave Dortmund for the right price.
Sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that others such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also keen on the 20-year-old.
Chelsea leading Jamie Gittens transfer race
For now, though, Chelsea’s interest is understood to be the most advanced, though it is not yet clear if their £55m offer will be enough to get a deal done.
Gittens certainly seems ideal for Chelsea’s needs at the moment, with the west London giants having just decided not to keep Jadon Sancho.
The 25-year-old spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Stamford Bridge, but didn’t quite do enough to earn a permanent move, so is now heading back to Manchester United.
Gittens would surely be an upgrade on Sancho, and perhaps on others like Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Jamie Gittens could be set for big move
Gittens has shown himself to be a terrific prospect at Dortmund, with BBC Sport pundit Stephen Warnock describing him as “electric”.
It’s certainly easy to see why so many clubs are keen on the youngster, with CaughtOffside informed that Arsenal are considering him as an alternative to Nico Williams.
Liverpool and Man City could also make efforts to bring Gittens back to England, but Bayern are also understood to be weighing up a move to try to keep him in Germany.
For now, Liverpool’s focus is on signing Florian Wirtz in the attacking midfield department, but one imagines there could be a role for Gittens as well if players like Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo or Diogo Jota leave.
