Expert advice please (37 replies)

So in our back garden our right hand fence (owned by neighbours) is a bit shitty. 5ft high, panels rotting etc. Rather than replace the fence they've put a 6.5ft fence up on their side of it. They've used wooden posts and screwed them into the existing 5 ft posts. We are now luft with a tatty 5ft fence with a 6.5ft fence behind it and we can't change the posts cos they've screwed their posts into them. Do I have any rights? I've questioned it with the neighbour but they just say all they've done is shorten the width of their garden. My gut tells me they are right but surely negatively affecting the look of our garden with our only option to do like for like and reduce the width of our garden can't be right. Any expert knowledge of something like this? TIA.
