“Thank god…”: Player might not be at Man United next season after his latest comments
Brazilian attacker Antony has now opened up on his struggles at Manchester United, and he has hinted that his future could lie away from Old Trafford with his latest comments.
The 25-year-old joined Manchester United for a fee of around €95 million, and naturally, there was pressure on him to perform instantly. He failed to live up to the expectations at Old Trafford, and the player managed just 12 goals in 96 appearances.
Antony was heavily criticised during his time at Manchester United, and the player has now revealed how it affected his personal life. The 25-year-old claims that he lost his love for football, and he was desperate for a change.
Antony was deseperate to leave
“I didn’t feel that desire to play football. I needed to find myself and be happy again because playing football is something I’ve always loved. I had a very difficult time at United and couldn’t find that pleasure. I told my brother I couldn’t take it anymore . My brother asked me to hold on a little longer, that everything was going to change. I’m emotional because they were very difficult days for me,” he revealed via SPORT.
The player joined La Liga outfit Real Betis during the January transfer window, and he has been outstanding for them ever since. He has picked up nine goals and five assists to his name in 25 matches. The South American believes that he is happy now, and he has rediscovered his joy for football.
“All I wanted was to be home. I didn’t even have the strength to play with my son. I would spend days without eating and locked in my room. It was very difficult, but thank God, I’m very happy here now,” said Antony
Man United return seems unlikely for Antony
His comments certainly suggest that a return to Manchester United is not on his wish list. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to sell him in the summer. He is not a key part of their plans going forward, and it would make sense for them to cash in on the player.
The 25-year-old needs to join a club where he can enjoy his football and play regularly. There have been rumours that Real Betis could look to sign him permanently. It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.
