Red Sox Split Rainy Series With Orioles Amid Mayer Call Up
One of the most exciting parts about the Boston Red Sox is its burgeoning youth movement, but it can also be one of the most frustrating aspects as well. The Red Sox called up their number two prospect, Marcelo Mayer on Saturday to help fill a hole left by third baseman Alex Bregman after he sustained a severe right quad strain during the Sox’s blowout win over the Orioles in their series opener.
The Red Sox have five rookies, and are fielding a young team that is bound to make errors, as they did on Sunday, with Mayer being among them. The Boston Red Sox split their four game series with the Orioles with a 5-1 loss on Sunday afternoon, putting them one game back from .500 as they head to Milwaukee for a series agains the Brewers.
