Red Sox’s Alex Cora Expands On Alex Bregman Injury
The injury bug keeps biting the Boston Red Sox.
However, this time, the hope is that the lower-body injury that forced Alex Bregman to leave Boston’s game against the Baltimore Orioles early will only keep the third baseman sidelined for a short period of time.
“Just tight right now,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora told NESN’s Tom Caron postgame. “Obviously, given the night (and in between the doubleheader), get some treatment, and we’ll know more tomorrow.
“Hopefully, something minor, that he misses a few days. And if he goes on the IL, then hopefully it’s like 10 days. We’ll keep our fingers crossed, and like I said, we’ll know more tomorrow.”
Bregman explained what he felt in his quad as he rounded first base in the bottom of the fifth after he roped a single to left field.
“I felt my quad grab. I didn’t continue running to second base for the double,” Bregman said on NESN’s postgame coverage. “I just stopped and came back to the bag so I wouldn’t make it any worse. I knew I needed to come out and see the trainer.”
Cora added that Bregman won’t need to have an imaging done, which would point toward a less severe injury.
“Talking to the training staff and the doctors here, there’s no need,” Cora said. “I think we’ll see how he reacts to the treatment over the next couple of hours, see how he feels tomorrow morning, and then if we have to do it, we’ll do it.”
If Bregman does miss any amount of time, Cora already has an emergency plan in place to cover third base.
