Player declares himself a Tottenham legend after Europa League final win over Manchester United

0 5

Following Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League win, an emotional Heung-min Son has now declared himself a Tottenham legend.

It all played out according to plan for Tottenham Hotspur, who have ended their almost two-decade wait for silverware in style, securing a European trophy following a 1-0 win against Manchester United.

The fourth European trophy in their history and the first in four decades means that the Tottenham faithful can end their rollercoaster of a 2024/25 season on a high.

Tottenham captain Heung-min Son has been part of the club’s journey in the last decade, witnessing heartbreak after heartbreak with the north London club, after coming close to success in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, the UEFA Champions League and a league title, but silverware always seemed to elude him.

Heung-min Son declares himself a Tottenham legend after Europa League win

On 21 May 2025, Heung-min Son had his crowning moment in a Lilywhite shirt for the first time, after Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Spain at the San Mames Stadium.

Though not in the starting XI from the off, the Korean forward came on as a substitute and helped his side clinch victory on Wednesday night.

It was the perfect ending for Son, who lifted the trophy under the lights in Spain, as the Tottenham players celebrated with fans in Bilbao.

Following the clash, an emotional Son declared himself a legend of Tottenham Hotspur, after he achieved something several people have failed to achieve.

He told TNT Sports: “Let us say I am a legend, why not! In 17 years no one has done it, today is the day, today I will say I am a legend of the club, let us enjoy it.

“It feels amazing, it is what I always dreamed for, it came true, I am the happiest man in the world.”

Son jokes at Brighton postponement after Europa League heroics

Tottenham will hold an open-top bus parade captain on Friday afternoon before taking to the field on Sunday in their final Premier League game of the season at home to Brighton.

Speaking about the prospect of playing once more this season, Son joked for the game to be called off. He said: “I felt the pressure, I wanted it so badly, the last seven games I was dreaming.

“I am going to miss the flight! Today is the day [fans] can celebrate. Maybe we can call the Brighton game off.”

The Tottenham fans would be sure to give the Spurs players a hero’s welcome when they next play Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
