Walker Buehler Confirms Rumor After Ejection From Red Sox-Mets

Walker Buehler’s ejection from Tuesday night’s Mets-Red Sox game at Fenway Park might have been a perfect storm.

For starters, Buehler likely entered the outing with a great deal of anticipation after sitting out for nearly a month due to a shoulder injury. There was also some pressure on the veteran right-hander to log a quality start after the Boston bullpen was taxed in Monday night’s series-opening win.

Buehler only lasted 2 1/3 innings, though, as a heated exchange with home-plate umpire Mike Estabrook led to an early exit for the two-time All-Star. The opponent might have had Buehler even more on edge, as the eighth-year pro acknowledged Wednesday that he has “a history” with New York. The Dodgers dispatched the Mets in a tense National League Championship Series last year en route to their 2024 title.

Those heated battles didn’t stop Steve Cohen and company from going after Buehler this past offseason, though.

“They definitely were one of the teams we had a lot of conversations with,” Buehler told reporters Wednesday, per MassLive.

Buehler doesn’t appear to have any actual bad blood toward Francisco Lindor or any other members of the Mets, though. The 30-year-old acknowledged how everyone on the field in any given game is competitive, and he “probably” would have acted the same way the New York shortstop did Tuesday evening.

The Red Sox and the Mets won’t meet again this season unless both sides reach the Fall Classic. And if that matchup comes to pass, it’s safe to say Buehler will be eager to take on the challenge.
